Job Responsibilities

Control of Manual – Issuance, Revision and Distribution

The Quality Manager shall be responsible for the preparation, revision and distribution of the Quality Manual and associated procedures. Each manual shall carry the original distribution date and the date of the last revision. The Quality Manager shall ensure that the latest revisions are available.

The Quality Manager shall audit the manual and procedures for accuracy on a regular basis.

Review of Drawings and Revisions

The Quality Manager shall review all drawings and revisions for compatibility of requirements to manufacturing capability, for clarity of specifications and necessary inspection controls.

The Quality Manager will review all drawing revisions for necessary changes in manufacturing processes. They will review the production tooling and inspection instructions necessary for compliance with the revision and obtain commitment for action. Should the drawings or specifications impose restrictions which are incompatible with process capabilities, the Quality Manager will confer with the President, Production managers, and Marketing on a course of action and proposed changes to present to the customer for approval.

Control of Quality of Materials and Services

The Quality Manager shall establish a system for controlling the quality of purchased supplies and services. Specifications will be furnished to the Purchasing Department covering the quality requirements for all materials and services of a critical nature.

The Quality of all purchased material shall be verified and approved by Quality before use in production. Nonconforming materials shall be positively identified as reject material and segregated for disposition. Adequate records of inspections and tests on purchased materials and services shall be maintained. Appropriate department personnel and management will be made aware of new and recurring defects in purchased supplies/products.

Relevant statistics on defects by vendor will be recorded and reported to management regularly.

Gage and Tool Calibration

The Quality Manager shall establish a system for controlling the calibration of tools needed for product acceptance or process monitoring as required by the combined QMS/AIS Management Systems. A computer-based system should be used to catalog & control this equipment and ensure calibrations are within requirements.

Manufacturing Process Control

Sufficient control shall be maintained over the manufacturing processes to prevent excessive defective products and to ensure conformance to applicable specifications.

Work Instructions for manufacturing processes and inspection shall be documented in outline format. Such procedures should clearly indicate the criteria to be used for acceptance and rejection of the process and who shall make such decisions.

In-process inspections shall be established when experience indicates such inspections may reduce process losses. Such inspections shall be under the control of the Quality Manager.

The Quality Manager will provide the basic data process records necessary for process control and problem solving. They will consult the Plant Manager on the areas to be covered and the reporting forms to be used.

The Quality Manager & Plant Manager will work with the Plant Supervisors and Leads to establish effective procedures for initiating and measuring the results of corrective action efforts to reduce losses.

Training

Monitor, report on, and recommend training needs to the management team regarding products and customer requirements.

Continual Improvement

Report on and promote continual improvement within the organization. Work with all employees to provide improvement opportunities by continual review of scrap, customer returns, Customer Complaints, Supplier Corrective Action Requests, Corrective Action Requests, Preventive Actions, and design changes.

Other Duties

Occasionally will be requested to perform duties not related to Quality Manager.

Job Requirements

Education:

  • Four-year college degree in Engineering with three or more years’ experience in quality and manufacturing.

OR

  • Two-year college degree in Engineering with five or more years’ experience in quality and manufacturing.

OR

  • Ten years or more experience in quality and manufacturing disciplines.

Required Skills:

  • Calibration experience and hands-on use of manual and automatic inspection devices. Perform receiving, in-process, and final inspection functions (or oversee QC personnel in said functions).
  • Write product inspection plans based on new and revised engineering drawings.
  • Proficient with MS Office (Excel, Power Point, Outlook, and Word). Experience with Acumatica a plus. Experience in AutoCAD, Solid Works, NC Programming and/or other CAD & CAD/CAM experience required.
  • Proven verbal and written communication skills, able to interact with all levels of employees, suppliers, customers and regulatory and audit representatives.
